Bag-in-box system from sodasan is a finalist for the German Sustainability Award
For 40 years, we have faced up to the responsibility of always thinking one step ahead when it comes to packaging. In 2019, we therefore made a cut in our bulk containers and replaced all PE plastic canisters with the innovative and plastic-saving bag-in-box packaging (BiB).
With its sustainable bulk packaging solution Bag-in-Box, Sodasan is a finalist for the Special Packaging Award of the German Sustainability Award 2023.
The switch from canisters to the resource-saving BiB system followed a systematic analysis of packaging alternatives or a reusable system for canisters across all stages of the product life cycle. Parameters such as production of the packaging, transport, cleaning and disposal were taken into account in the calculations.
Above all, the use of the thin plastic bladder significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared with canisters - both during production and when the containers are delivered. The weight saving in plastic compared to canisters with the same filling volume is approx. 70% for 5-liter and approx. 80% for 20-liter containers. Creative approaches are always the beginning of doing things better in a different way. With this philosophy anchored in our DNA, we were already recognized as an award winner by the DNP in 2018 for our pioneering work in bringing ecological detergents into the social spotlight. (
